At Bespoke French Lessons, culture isn’t a bonus — it’s the heart of how we teach. Literature, music, conversation, poetry, gastronomy, and history are not accessories to the language but the language itself.

That’s why our classes are designed not around textbooks, but around who you are, what you read, what you feel curious about, and how you want to live in French. Whether you’re walking through the Marais or dialing in from London or New-York, each lesson opens a door onto the cultural depth of the French language.

We teach French through culture because we believe language is not just vocabulary — it’s nuance, rhythm, codes, references, and memory.

Our Cultural Approach

Each of our tutors brings more than expertise — they bring a world. Some are writers. Some are historians. Others are musicians, linguists, or just profoundly curious. But none of them follow a script. Your class is your space.

Some learners are matched with a tutor who loves poetry and literature, others with someone who weaves grammar into conversation about Parisian life, art, cuisine or contemporary film. If you’re preparing for a French exam, we include the codes and techniques to help you pass. But you’ll never be reduced to a test score.

We work with advanced learners who want to shed the stiffness of textbook French and speak with clarity, confidence and grace. We also help beginners move quickly into everyday, cultural French. Our goal is to help you not just speak French, but think in it.

Learning With Us: What to Expect

Your first meeting is with Violaine, the founder. She listens to your goals, your story, your needs — and suggests a tutor who fits you. From there, each lesson is adjusted based on what emerges. One week you might be working on oral fluency through film discussion. The next, on perfecting a formal email, understanding a poem, or describing what you cooked last night.

We don’t separate cultural learning from language learning. Our students include diplomats, novelists, designers, researchers, chefs, university professors, actors, and passionate travellers. All of them came looking for a French that goes beyond surface-level. And all of them found a way to make it theirs.

We work in-person in Paris and online across time zones. Each session is private, entirely shaped around you, with follow-up if you wish. No group lessons. No templates. No algorithms.
